Domestic Violence

Back

Unacceptable behaviour by one party of a couple to another, including intimidation, harassment, abuse, threats and assault, is unfortunately a common reason for the breakdown of relationships.

In any society, this should not be tolerated. Fortunately in Australia there are laws, processes and services in place for persons who are subjected to unacceptable behaviour, and they are designed to provide protection from such behaviour by way of Apprehended Violence Orders. The services will vary from place to place.
In addition to obtaining an Apprehended Violence Order, which often occurs at a time of separation and high anxiety, other issues may need urgent attention such as making temporary accommodation arrangements. This can include one of the parties and children. The need to address other issues may soon follow.
